It’s often said “Be careful what you wish for, because you might get it.” Well, clearly enough Americans wished for radical change, and they got it. In spades! Donald Trump is now the president elect, and will walk into the Oval Office as Commander in Chief of the United States of America next January. What seemed like an unthinkable joke 18 months ago is now a bizarre reality.
But more than 50% of the voting population voted for Hillary Clinton. Trump simply got in because of the Electoral College vote. This means that Donald Trump will become president even though less than 25% of the US population voted for him. That doesn’t seem right, does it? In fact it seems like democracy somehow failed. Maybe this portends the beginning of the end for the nation that made democracy a household word, and the model of free government across the globe. If democracy doesn’t work, what does that say about the state of the free world? Is the American empire facing its final days?
I have some thought on this.
